Rethink Carbon

Rethink Carbon is a climate tech startup company based in Aviemore, created from the Scottish Government CivTech programme in 2021, with the goal of tackling climate change and biodiversity loss. Our mission is to empower every land manager, regardless of their expertise or location, to make informed and sustainable choices. Our focus is on developing software solutions that benefit nature, the climate, and local communities.

Our team has extensive expertise in cloud platforms, ecology, GIS mapping, and project management, all united by a passion for technology and nature. Co-Founder Mark Caulfield has built large platforms for organisations such as NatureScot, SEPA, and AI based companies, while Co-Founder Zoƫ Russell has a PhD in Grouse Management and has previously worked at NatureScot for 16 years. Freddie Ryan has worked with land managers for over 10 years, providing advisory services for land use change.

We have built a strong network of relationships with key stakeholders such as the Scottish Government, NatureScot, Scottish Forestry, Ordnance Survey, Registers of Scotland and IUCN amongst many others, ensuring we are up to date with the latest in regulatory and industry developments.
